even thought these are sculptures made out of metal instead of drawing they are still works of are that are inspiring in there own way, the reason i have chosen this artist in particular is because he replaces parts like leg joints with gears and areas of movement like the shoulders with loosely fitting areas that over lap.
how this artist inspired my design:
Andrew replaces flesh with machine and metal parts that are the parts man made equal.(example: knee joint with gears or a metal hinge)
In my idea im going to replace the flesh on the insect with tank parts however Andrew had inspired me to not just replace the large parts like the head and the main body with tank parts but the whole form including the joining sections. (example: i could make the join between the main body and the lower body with commander hatches wielded together in a corrugated effect)
i have also taken inspiration from the eyes in the pieces as originally my design wasn't going to have any eyes however after seeing how they stand out on these sculptures i have decided to incorporate a similar design for my eyes.
the following piece was created by Yoji_Shinkawa the concept artist for metal gear rex: http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Yoji_Shinkawa
this image of metal gear rex is very close to the kind of style i want to do my final piece in, the reason i have chosen this kind of style is it makes the design look more robot and simple at the same time and as my creature is made up from tank parts quickly wielded together.
how this piece inspired my design:
as you can see his piece is very intimating as the machine is facing towards the viewer as if its ready to attack, this works with the story i have written about how the creature is now aggressive because it was attack when it first started to move.
this image also has its main armament on the left side of the page, this follows the rule of 3rds which states that the focal point of the image should be just off to the left of the center because this is where the human eye is most drawn to.
the lighting on this piece is also inspiring as it again adds drama to the scene it makes the machine stand out from the back drop by adding rather deep shadows on the lower parts such as the legs and lighter shading on the top. (this would put the light just above and to the right which is perfect as this adds detail to the left side)
